When One Project Requires Three Countries, Two Origins & One Logistics Solution

International logistics becomes truly challenging when a single project involves multiple countries of origin, different suppliers, banking requirements and confidentiality considerations.

Recently, GSI Cargo received an interesting business inquiry involving a China–India–Mauritius project shipment.

The customer in Mauritius had awarded a project to an Indian company.

Approximately 90% of the project cargo was being manufactured in India, while around 10% was being manufactured by a supplier in China.

The challenge?

The China-origin cargo also needed to reach the same Mauritius customer, but the commercial and banking structure needed to be managed from India. At the same time, the company wanted to maintain appropriate commercial confidentiality between its Chinese supplier and the ultimate customer.

This was not simply a freight movement problem.

It was a combination of:

Trade Structure + Banking + Customs + Documentation + Cargo Movement

The GSI Cargo Approach

Instead of treating the two cargo streams independently, we looked at the complete transaction and developed a structured logistics solution.

Step 1 — China → India

The China-origin cargo would be brought into India and handled through an appropriate customs-bonded facility, subject to applicable regulations.

Step 2 — Ex-Bond Export

For onward movement to Mauritius, the required ex-bond and export documentation process would be followed, maintaining the appropriate customs trail for the China-origin goods.

Step 3 — India-Origin Export

The remaining 90% India-manufactured cargo would follow the regular Indian export process with the required commercial and customs documentation.

Step 4 — Consolidated Movement to Mauritius

Both cargo streams could then be operationally coordinated and consolidated for the Mauritius destination, subject to carrier and customs requirements.

The objective was simple:

One coordinated project delivery — while maintaining the correct documentation, customs traceability and commercial structure for each cargo origin.

The Bigger Lesson

Complex international shipments cannot always be solved by simply selecting the shortest or cheapest route.

They require logistics engineering — understanding the transaction first and then designing the movement around customs, trade, documentation and operational requirements.
